Welcome to Kentucky Couch Kin and SWAPaSOURCE Trading Post. This is a project where you can hunt, find, and exchange authentic genealogy source documents for Couch family research in Kentucky.
In recent years we have all enjoyed a great wealth of genealogy information on the web. Many of us have shared willingly and go above and beyond to help a fellow researcher. I am very grateful to the online genealogists who helped me get started. However; at times others do not share in this generosity and it can be disappointing when another type of brick wall becomes one of no reply to our email or queery regarding clues we've found online.
As you know, there are many "transcribed" records online which are indeed treasure and we are thankful for them. Our deepest gratitude to these individuals for their hard work and dedication to sound research. However, we realize that transcribing is in the eye of the beholder and appreciate the fact that these old records are often difficult to read. I'm sure many of you have found transcription errors and questionable data, as I have.
With this simple project YOU can be the judge. We all know how important good source documentation is to the integrity of our research. In my opinion, the paper trail is THE most important aspect to a serious genealogist. Without proper documentation, our results are essentually myth. I hope that in sharing actual source documents, we can help each other reach our ultimate goal in sound research and break a few brick walls while we're at it!
The Trading Post section includes partial transcription of documents that I've collected in my own Couch family genealogy research. In addition, there are numerous records submitted by fellow researchers If you are searching for a specific name, the "Find" feature on your browser works very well. Check back often as I will be adding more....(this is where YOU come in!) Look for

If you find a document listed and would like a copy, be prepared to "swap" something from your own source document collection. Your swapped item must be related to the Couch family and linked to Kentucky ONLY. Please do not send your item but let me know what it is first along with your emailed request. If you don't find something of interest listed, you can donate a swap item in advance. I will issue credit to use when an item appears that you want.

I will not accept copyrighted items or anything copied from another website. Please use common sense with documents that include personal information on living people. If you have something, i.e. a Bible record that contains personal data on someone living, you can carefully cover it with post-it strips before scanning. If you have no digital means to submit the copy, please contact me for snail mail address and send a good photo copy that I can scan.
My own brick wall is the main reason I thought this could be a worthwhile project. Below is a descendency chart for my Couch family. Please do not send me your charts as that's not what this site is about. Instead, send charts to Bill Couch at his Couch GenWeb site, Couch Genealogy of the U.S. Bill is a seasoned researcher and has a large Couch database.
